About the property

Hello and thanks for looking at listing. Depending on move in date, rent will be prorated. Please call John T Bradley at (301) 213-6748 or Leslie Bradley at 301-213-8349 to arrange a viewing, or for more information. You can also email us at: John - John_T_Bradley@msn.com Leslie - n8url@yahoo.com The house is great for a single person, a couple, or a couple with a young child. There are two bedrooms and one bathroom. House is in good shape and we maintain it well. While used as a rental for 20+ years, the vast majority of renters have been associated with the military and have taken care of the house, too. We also had a master carpenter in the house for many years who helped build the large backyard deck, front porch, and screen porch. The lot is unique with a lot of privacy but is tucked into the larger community/development of McMansions called North Keys Estates. The neighborhood is very quiet and safe. Great commute distance to Joint Base Andrews. Closest Metro line is Branch Ave. Station on the Green line. Plenty of parking. Please look at our pictures and call or email if you have any questions. House History - The home was built circa 1955. The home is co-located on a very private 12 acre lot along with the original 1912 farmhouse. This 1912 Mackall Tenant House (aka locally as the Cross-Hyde House) was occupied by four generations of one family of tenant farmers until 1989. The tenants worked the farm of the owners of the historic Mackall House at Brookefield (Mattapany Plantation), circa 1790, located across the street. The 1955 rental home was built as a wedding present for the Hyde family's eldest son. In the 1990s, the farm (244 acres by that time) was divided up into lots and sold off in mostly 5 to 8 acre parcels to various builders who built mostly 'McMansion' homes. The subdivision is known as North Keys Estates, and is a quiet neighborhood, with great roads for walking, jogging, and riding bikes. The rental property is adjacent to the housing development. However, it is entirely buffered by woods with the exception of just one direction which overlooks a historic preservation lot containing 2 barns. Aerial views of the property (on the corner of Plantation Drive and North Keys Road) can be seen from Google Earth's website and other similar sites. The driveway is shared with the tenants in the 1912 farmhouse. It is partially paved (2006), and partially gravel. History of some of the major work done over the years: - Major renovations in 2024 - Brand New Kitchen with Granite Countertops and New Bathroom with Walk-in Shower! (2024) - Interior of House Painted (2024) - Updated Electric - replaced all switches and outlets with new decora outlets in all rooms & new lighting in kitchen, bathroom, and laundry room (2024) - New larger gutters (2024) - New Front Door with Mission Style Glass (2024) and New Front Storm Door with Full Glass (2024) - Updated landscaping (2024) - Tree trimming (2024) - New Hot Water Heater (2023) - Water heater was replaced with a new high efficient unit. - New Back Door with Mission Style Glass (2022) - New Washer & Dryer (2022) - Dryer has Steam cycle. - New Windows in Living Room (2022) - Paver walkway installed around front porch. (Sept. 2014) - New highly energy efficient spray R-20 open cell foam insulation in crawl space, as well as new R-49 fiberglass blown insulation in attic to help keep the electric bill low. (Aug. 2014). Electric bills were halved from their average prior to that. - Crown Molding and Ceiling Fans installed in both bedrooms and Living Room (2014) - New Electric Panel (2009) - Electric Panel replaced and upgraded to 220 service. - New Covered Front Porch (2008) 8 foot by 12 foot wide front porch was built, and new outside light fixtures were added. - Cable TV/High-Speed Internet (2007). House is wired for Xfinity/Comcast Cable TV & Internet. There is one Cable TV outlet in the living room, and one Cable TV outlet in each bedroom. The house is NOT wired for Verizon FiOS. - New bedroom doors and closet doors were installed (2006). - Renovated Screened-in Porch and new large "2-level deck (2005) - Plenty of room for relaxation! Deck and porch are built from treated lumber. A large flower box and two benches are also built into the lower/larger deck. A new ceiling fan was installed in the screen porch. - Storage Shed (2004) - A large 8 x 16 foot storage shed was erected to provide additional storage capacity and/or to be used as a workshop. A ramp was added to the front to provide easier access for wheeling boxes/bikes/etc. into the shed. The shed has multiple built-in shelves along one wall and several cabinets. The shed has lights and electrical outlets. The shed is not insulated, but is dry. Other Information of interest: Heating - Each room has electric baseboard heaters installed. Renters need to establish an account with the local Electric Company (SMECO) for electric power. Water - Water is from a local well on the property. There is no charge for water/sewer. Water pressure is good. A utility closet houses a (new-2023) electric hot water heater. The home uses a septic system. The septic system was installed in the mid 1990's and was last evaluated (and cleaned out) in 2022. There are two hose bibs on the outside of the house for connecting a garden hose, if desired. Air Conditioning - The home has several window air conditioner units that are more than powerful enough to cool the house, when needed. The units are stored in the renter's storage shed until needed. Due to the high efficiency insulation, the house stays pretty cool in the summer and fairly warm in the winter. TV/Internet/Phone - Cable TV is provided by Xfinity/Comcast. High Speed Internet is provided by Xfinity/Comcast. (Verizon FiOS, while available in the neighborhood, is not run to the house - and due to unmarked utility lines on this property, the renters are asked to NOT have FiOS installed over fears that the Verizon folks will cut an unmarked utility line - sorry, Miss Utility won't be able to mitigate). Old fashioned telephone landline service is provided by Verizon, if desired. Renter will need to establish an account with Xfinity/Comcast and/or Verizon telephone if these services are desired. Satellite TV/Internet is possible, with Direct TV, Hughes Satellite, and other options, if desired. Trash Service - Trash service is paid for by the landlord. Two trash cans are provided. Trash day is on Tuesday, picked up at the end of the driveway. Sorry, recycling is not picked up at the curb side. But, there is a County recycling center in Brandywine. To use the Brandywine recycling center, you need a Maryland Driver's license. There are extra cans available to store recycling. Yard/Landscaping - The backyard is secluded within a ring of woods and is very private. The 1912 farmhouse is visible from the front of the home. More than half of the property is wooded, and provides a nice private buffer from nearby roads and other homes. The landlords ask that the renters take care of the grass cutting/weed-whacking just around the rental house and renter storage shed, as needed. The landlord has a gas-powered lawnmower and electric-powered weed-whacker (2023) and charger that the renters can use when needed. The lawn mower was just serviced (2023) and in good shape. There is also a riding mower that can be used, if desired. There is ample room for a large garden on the left side of the rental house, if desired, and the soil is great - with renters having amended it with top soil and other goodies over the years. Several flower beds and bushes are located around the house. Landlords John T Bradley and Leslie Bradley no longer live in the 1912 farmhouse. But, John is available and works in DC. The current renters in the 1912 farmhouse are associated with the military and have two friendly dogs. There is 1 friendly mini horse, chickens, and geese in the fenced pastures on the other side of their house, mostly out of sight from the rental house, but who would certainly welcome a visit anytime. Public Schools - The property is served by the Baden Elementary, Gywnn Park Middle School, and Gywnn Park High School. The landlords' kids had attended Baden Elementary (public school - PG County) for many years, and we had liked the elementary school. It offers pre-K to 6th grade. The school bus picks up and drops off at the end of the shared driveway. The academic and disciplinary quality of the public middle and public high school do not have a great reputation. Renter Restrictions/Responsibilities - The landlords ask that the rental house be smoke-free, have no indoor or outdoor cats. A dog would be considered, but needs to be house trained. There should be no ATV (All-Terrain Vehicle/Dirt Bike Riding) on the property. Renters are responsible for taking their two trash cans (provided) to the curb on Tuesdays (trash day) and returning them when emptied. Renters are responsible for maintaining the lawn around the renter house, as needed (mowing/trimming). The lawn mower, trimmer are provided by the landlord. Renters are responsible for maintaining a minimum indoor temperature of at least 50 degrees in the winter, even when they may be out of town. This is to ensure that the water pipes do not freeze. The bedrooms each come with Thank you for your interest in the property. Please call, and we will answer any additional questions that you may have.
